Recently I had a client that needed updated headshots for her business. She contacted me asking if she could do branding session for her skin care business. She quit her corporate job last year and she decided to be her own boss. She is an independent consultant for Rodan+Fields. She has been very successful selling skin care to those who have been having trouble with their skin and she is quite content with her new adventure, but she has been putting off updating her headshots because she hadn’t been able to lose the weight as she wanted.
When she contacted me, she was very worried that she would look large in the photos and I would have to do a lot of editing to make her look the way she wanted. With my experience in beauty and headshot photography, I knew this was the right time for her to book the session. Women too often are too critical of their looks and they simply don’t believe they are beautiful the way they are. They shy away from the camera and they avoid having their portraits created because they don’t believe they are enough. This client was one of these women. She cancelled on me twice, but after reaffirming her and giving her my studio guarantee that she would love all her portraits, she went through with it. She came in to my home studio and she liked tense and worried. She didn’t bring any dresses with her because she said she looked terrible in all the dresses she owned. I was honestly worried that she will just turn apologize, turn around and leave. I could feel her anxiety.
After providing her a gorgeous, sexy dress that fit her like a glove, after hair and make-up artistry, after a low-pressure conversation about our shoot and after just a few compliments, this client rocked the shoot. She felt beautiful and confident. She followed all my direction for posing. But most importantly, she believed in herself and her beauty. When she saw her portraits at the ordering appointment, she was almost in tears. She couldn’t believe how gorgeous she looked (by the way, the editing was minimal – mostly lighting and color). She LOVED all her portraits and she couldn’t wait to share them with all her friends, family and business acquaintances. Immediately, at the ordering appointment she booked another session for a relationship portrait session with her husband since they haven’t had their portraits updated in ages!
This situation is very typical. Many of my clients avoid the camera, they are not experts in posing and modeling, they think they are not good looking enough or too large. But it’s my job to show you that you are beautiful, you are amazing, you are enough!
